BOSWIJCK NEW YORK

Bogart street in Bushwick, Brooklyn, New York, NY

At the town hall of Brooklyn named after the dutch village Breukelen, I read the motto of the Borough: Eendracht maackt macht.

Bushwick a particular exciting part of Brooklyn and probably the most happening place in New york today is the home to my good friend and fellow theatre director Rafael Gallegos.

In the weekend I visit him I am lucky enough to be there while the yearly Bushwick open studios take place.

The many artist who moved here in the past ten years open their workplaces to a neighbourhood that used to be considered dangerous. Still a neighbourhood of mainly habitants of latin America, there's something new, fresh, unformulated, unadjust, something very Berlin about this place.

Here I bump into some smart, sensitive, remarkable and promising characters.
On rooftops, in studios, in the local bagelshop, on the street, in someone's kitchen, in the live cafe, in a small theatre space. there are individuals who make this place into a energy filled oasis for creativity. I would love to live here for a while, to be here in residencie. And become part of it for a while, of New york, Bushwick of Brooklyn and it's motto.
